There has been a change of plans in the Heroes writing room. Ask Ausellio was confirming that Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) will experiment with her new college roommate Annie (Rachel Melvin) in Heroes: Season 4. However, TV Guide brings news from Hayden herself and series creator Tim Kring:

Any truth to the rumors about Heroes’ Claire becoming a lesbian? -Norm, Escondido, Cal.
Well, Norm, according to Hayden Panettiere (Claire), the persistence of fans like you has paid off. “I think the writers are feeling a lot of pressure now to do it, because everyone’s talking about it,” she says. “And I certainly wouldn’t complain.” The non-alcohol induced action (”just a kiss,” says creator Tim Kring) will happen in Episode 5 between Claire and her new college roomie, Gretchen (Madeline Zima). Hayden describes Gretchen as “an odd duck who’s obsessed with death and shows like CSI.” “They’re really cute together,” Kring says. “If Gretchen reveals her sexual orientation to Claire, Claire might want to reveal her own secret.” In addition to fighting evil (more Heroes on page 33), Claire will also pledge Alpha Chi Delta, where preppy pledge master Becky is guarding a secret of her own. Hayden’s only edict for college: “I’ll never wear a cheerleading outfit again!” [TV Guide Magazine Issue July 26-August 9]
Herosite is reporting that Episode 5, which will feature Heroes’ first gay kiss, will be titled “Hysterical Blindness.” Could Becky be related to the mysterious suicide on-campus? How do you like Claire’s new story line?

i think if they handle it well it could turn out not to be a lame attempt to get viewings but i think an intresting prespective on clares character and relationships. plus just because it involves people of the same sex it doesnt automatically mean its going to be a craapy stupid thing.
Either way, this will still have an affect on the audience, and they may want to have the couple again. Poor Hayden.
I think it’s good that Heroes is doing this. I know it might be for ratings or whatever… but I think it will be a cool new outlook on Claire as a character. Unless it’s a pre-cog dream or flashback… Can’t wait though.
I don’t like it. I hope it’s a dream, a dare, something she’s forced into, something like that.
Though… this ^^ above. Says ‘Annie’, isn’t she supposed to commit suicide? Hmm… and in the teaser… it’s Claire and Gretchen. Might be a typo…?
ugh this is so stupid. People don’t just become gay like that! I think that Claire is just desperate to belong and desperate for a relationship so she confuses her longing for that relationship as same sex attraction toward Gretchen. Poor Hayden. I hope that Claire realizes that the whole thing is stupid and tells Gretchen that she doesn’t like her in that way but just as a friend.
