Actor Greg Grunberg, who plays Matt Parkman on Heroes, recently video-chatted with Ben Parr from Mashable about his new venture on social media and business: Yowza. This iPhone application is a GPS-based coupon system that -as the slogan says- allows you to “Shop like you mean it. Save like it, too.”
During the video conferencing, Greg was asked about Heroes and his character’s story line for the upcoming fourth season of the show. He elaborates about the finale events of Season 3 and his pivotal role when he was tasked to swap Sylar’s (Zachary Quinto) and Nathan’s (Adrian Pasdar) minds. Greg talked about Bryan Fuller’s (Pushing Daisies, Dead like Me, Wonderfalls) involvement in the new season of Heroes, as well as the return to character-driven plot lines.
Here is a transcript of the “Heroes” part of the interview:
“What we are shooting right now is incredible stuff. Every year, every season ends and you know… we all go our separate ways. Then we get a call from Tim Kring and Dennis Hammer, the heads of the show, and they say come on in let’s discuss stuff with you, where the show is going. You either get a call saying you are getting fired and killed or you get a call saying alright let’s go over stuff. When they told me what was happening with my character; in particular, I remember, at the end of last season, they turned to me. My power was one of the most poweful on the show because they turned to me to kind of wipe Sylar out and do that whole “switch.”
Well.. I didn’t even give a second thought that anything would’ve stayed in my head or in my body when I did that process, and I’m haunted by lets say… parts of Sylar that stayed in the transition, that stayed with me.
It’s very very cool what they are doing and it plays into the character side of our show, which I think is the most successful side of our show. We were so lucky to have Bryan Fuller back on the show for the beginning of the season. He has a big deal with NBC and he is developing an amazing show. But they said, “Ok, we want you back.” They brought him back, when “Pushing Daisies” got cancelled. They brought him back and Bryan is just an amazing writer, and he and Tim [Kring] work together so well. We had him for a certain amount of time to kind of set…. (phone call intteruption)
So anyways…. I was talking about Bryan Fuller… So, we had Bryan for a finite amount of time at the beginning of this season and he really set the tone for more of a character driven show, which was the sucess of our show at the beggining, I think. And that’s what we are going back to and I benefit from that. My character is a very relatable character. My power is. As much of a fantasy as it is, you are still dealing with emotions in the mind and thoughts and stuff. So far its been an amazing ride. I think, one of the keys to this season is that sylar is not gone for long at all.”

Hhhmmm. Part of Sylar stayed with him? interesting.
yessss interesting indeed!
the guilt that matt carries would definitely shake his character next season. more guilt if sylar/nathan becomes very very evil. my guess? he’ll be a good guy next season (sylar/nathan)…
