Heroes will return this fall in a new time spot and with new cast members including daytime Emmy award-nominated actress Rachel Melvin from “Days of our Lives” [THR] as Claire’s second roommate.
In an earlier newsletter, Tim Kring revealed that Claire(Hayden Panettiere) will be attending college in Washington D.C. as part of a series of new plot lines dealing with evolved humans trying to live regular lives.
If you read our post about the leaked picture of the production draft, you should not be surprised that the name of Melvin’s character is Annie. However, THR goes further and says that she “will also share sleeping quarters (and maybe more) with Claire.”
On an interview with CBR, producers Joe Pokaski and Aron Coliete mentioned the possibility of an LGBT character coming next season. Or was it coming out next season?
During Season 1, Claire’s best friend Zach was rumored to have a story line that will reveal more about his sexuality. Unfortunately, actor Thomas Dekker left Heroes for the role of John Connor in Fox’s “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”, which run for 2 seasons before cancellation.
Heroes has a strong and predominantly male audience and many fans of Hayden Panettiere will be very happy to see her share a kiss with Rachel Melvin.

I did notice that too, it doesn’t look good for Heroes with the record.
But I doubt that any of Claire’s roommates is going to have a big role on the show, though Deanne Bray and Robert Knepper’s characters will clearly be more significant ones.

Read the casting calls, the characters were open to all ethnicities.

I have a hard time believing Ray Park was chosing for his talent.
Mohinder, Hiro, Ando are among the main characters. Maya, her brother and the Haitian had big parts on the show as well. And the president wasn’t ‘white’ either. Even Adrian Pasdar has Iranian blood.
Maya, her brother, also Monica, Micah, DL, Simone and Isaac, have been written off, either through their character dying, or going away. Three of them have been written off between seasons, sometimes disregarding their ongoing storylines (Monica, Micah, DL).
Mohinder, Hiro and Ando have been marginalized, and they are in fact the last characters of colour remaining on the show. Mohinder has been villified and relegated to 2 mins of screentime every two episodes, even his backstory, motivation retconned, and the Sylar connection removed because Sylar is too precious to waste on a non-white character, he’s not concerned with blonde Claire; Hiro and Ando have been infantilized and are now mostly used as comic relief and to pull on the heart strings.
The Haitian has not been seen from one episode to another, even though he was going after Sylar. He hasn’t been in the last volume with no explanation where he went. The never got real character development: the storyline with his evil brother was really just supposed to foreshadow the Petrelli brothers conflict, and was all about white Americans defending helpless lighter-skinned pretty women against evil, savage black men, who dwell in the jungle and are evil rapists for the sake of it.
The president of colour was little more than a MacGuffin. Something to fight over in the finale, with no agency of his own. He is easily manipulated by Nathan, easily talked into kidnapping and detaining not just his own citizens, but also foreign citizens, for crying out loud, and later requires saving by the white heroes who have put him in danger in the first place. Also, he was never named. Just like the Haitian.
And if you think all this can be shrugged off, then you are part of the problem. After three seasons, among their series regulars, they still haven’t fired a single white guy or girl, even if their characters died, they always found way to bring them back, no matter how contrived. They also never wrote any of them out “because their story is over”, only to have them reappear in the GNs or like Micah in a tiny role in the Fugitives arch, showing that their adventures were actually far from over – they just somehow didn’t deserve to be on TV with all the white people. If you think Adrian Pasdar’s ethnic background gives him as much of a disadvantage as the ethnic background of, for example, Sendhil Ramamurthy, who has much darker skin and a much more “ethnic” name, you really don’t know what you are talking about.
Hollywood is incredibly racist, no matter how it would like to portray itself. Look at the casting for the Avatar – The Last Airbender movie. It’s not a coincidence the heroes are played by white people, the villains by Indian-Americans.
Will you believe it when the next series regular to go is also of colour, or will you continue to live in your happy lala-land of “post-racial” “but we have a black president!” America?

Hiro is still the second most popular character on the show.
I agree that minorities have gotten the shaft on this show. (Hey, the Jewish guys is getting more powerful each Volume… does that count?) Even brunette white girls are harder to find… But it certainly isn’t a conspiracy.
Though, they need to bring back Monica. That was an awesome character.
(And Ray Park probably WAS chosen for his talents. His martial arts/ stunt talents that is.)
wow. you REALLY need to quit bitchin’ about the racism. you’re just looking for something to whine about. jesus christ, just shut up. I mean, yeah they killed colored actors off, but they did so with white characters as well: elle, candice, isaac, eden, ted, thompson, jackie, ricky, flint, meredith, linderman daphne, adam, moury, and arthur. So yeah, that’s actually the majority of the people who have died. So why don’t you go to another website and complain about things that aren’t real. THANKS
